England win the Ashes!

I was about 10 years old the last time we won the Ashes and hadn’t started paying attention to cricket at that point so, for many years, if you’d asked me when was the last time we’d won, I’d probably have replied that it was in the 19th century :-) But we turned it around this time, and in convincing style. Of course, being on the wrong side of the pond, coverage is a little limited to say the least, so I was stuck listening to a rather overwhelmed Five-Live BBC feed this morning (Buffering…) as Pietersen keep hitting them for six; I just wish I could have seen it. If I had a flag, it would be up in the office right now, but there aren’t many Aussies around here to appreciate it anyway. :-)

About as many as there are actual Englishmen in the English team these days, as far as I can tell.

Presumably “convincing style” == “would have lost if it hadn’t rained”?

Yeah! TMS (Test match special) is superb, the way they can talk for hours and hours in a rain break just has to be heard to be fully appreciated.

    Bitterness from down-under eh? :-)

Pietersen’s mother is English and the Aussie’s first innings collapse wasn’t exactly what I’d call a promising indicator of what they’d have done if rain hadn’t cut things short. :-)

All I can say is enjoy it while it lasts.
